One day in 2017, Geoffrey Daniel Phelan received a call from a local business owner in Charleston. The woman called to asked for help with expediting her new Comcast Business Internet, Wi-Fi, and Phone service installation, so she could get installed sooner. It was a business owner Geoff had met in person, while knocking doors in his territory, only one week prior. He had piqued their interest enough, which led to them calling Comcast's 1-800 Number to order service instead of him directly. She had already signed a service agreement with the rep she spoke with over the phone, and had no idea that it would not come back to be credited to Geoffrey. She was just trying to get a hold of the scheduling dept. and didn't know who to call, until she remembered she had his card. She just wanted service to be installed sooner.
Due to Comcast's internal rules of engagement, there was absolutely Geoff could do to get credit for her order. To add salt to the wound, it was already a bad sales month for him, as he was already dealing with two previous orders being cancelled by his own internal operations team, who stated the orders were 'taking too long to be installed'. The installs had been delayed and the Comcast technician turned away due to both customers experiencing permitting delays with obtaining their certificates of occupancy from the City of Charleston.
Nonetheless, after realizing what happened, he quickly collected himself and did his best to separate his emotions from the situation. He calmly did his best guiding the customer to the right dept. who could assist her with her scheduling escalation needs. After that called, Geoffrey vowed he would do whatever it took to find a better way to leave a better, more memorable impression, with local businesses. He vowed to never lose another sale to his company's own internal 1-800 # again. Ironically, his top competitor was the very same Inbound Call Center that he had started his career with, 7 years prior, when he start working for Comcast Business.
From that day forward, Geoffrey searched for a way to increase his value with local businesses whom he met with and interacted. After witnessing many businesses in Charleston open for business only to fail and close down in year or two later, Geoff beg realized that the technology services he was selling to anyway - if they couldn't actually get their phones to ring, or their online orders to ping? It was August 2017, when Geoffrey Daniel Phelan got in trouble with his wife for spending a ton of his savings on a digital marketing education program, while working full-time for Comcast Business, serving businesses in the Charleston, South Carolina area, as their local, dedicated, business account representative. At the time, he was 7 years into a career at Comcast where he experienced tons of success helping both startups and existing established businesses manage their Business Telecommunication Services with Comcast. He was responsible for educating his local territory of businesses on the value of Comcast's robust hybrid-fiber network, which gives them a competitive advantage for providing faster, scalable, more secure, and more reliable business Internet and Wi-Fi service. He would also offer Comcast's Business Voice, Cable TV, Automatic 4G LTE Internet Failover, and Security services to help businesses cover their needs to keep credit card machines running, and employees and customers happy without service interruption.
As a seasoned business executive, Geoffrey became highly adept at helping his local business clients navigate Comcast's business service installations, internal rules and policies, and customer service escalation processes. His unwavering goal, no matter how much "selling time" it took away from him, was to always ensure his clients would feel blessed or lucky for lack of a better word to have him as their representative. He would always strive to take care of his existing customers whenever they would call with an issue or concern, no matter what it cost. As long as his sales numbers continued to average 120%+ he would not have to worry about catching flak from his managers. He learned to help his clients prepare for service interruptions, which are no longer a matter of "IF, but a matter of WHEN". He sought to educate his customers and help them develop their business continuity plans, which often consisted of 4G LTE Failover.
Fast-forward to August 2017. This is when Greenville DigITal was first born. Geoff clicked on a YouTube ad after hitting play on a Tony Robbins video, which led him to invest in acquiring the most valuable skills that could help most any business - digital marketing, sales, and lead generation. The first thing that happened was he launched his own business facebook page to begin growing his local audience and begin running targeted ad campaigns to make local businesses who needed new Internet and communication services aware of his existence and encourage them to call him (the local rep) as opposed to the 1-800 #, which was based entirely in another state.
It was thrilling when interested business owners and managers began reaching out to him by phone and Facebook Messenger to order new services. At this point, Geoffrey began talking with his local prospects about their digital marketing initiatives and was delighted by the responses he would receive. His expertise resonated with business owners in Charleston, who were almost 100% of the time, it seemed, interested in either one or the other. The businesses who were not interested in digital marketing campaigns to optimize their web presence and grow their sales, were usually interested in his expertise in the area of Telecom services, whether they already had Comcast Business or not. Those who despised Comcast or were satisfied with their current Internet/Phone Service Provider, were typically still interested in DigITal Marketing secrets that he could offer.
By the Summer of 2019, it was clear to Geoff that his new Digital Marketing skills and resources made his value proposition highly unique and in combination with his Telecommunications & Internet Service Provider expertise stemming from the previous 10 years of his career. It was at this time, he was in touch with his college roommate, a man named Jonathan Morse, who taught him about telecom solution providers, who made up what is often referred to as the "Partner Channel" inside major telecom service provider operations. Geoff learned that he could become a consultant who represented a global ecosystem of leading technology service providers, not just limited to one provider - like Comcast Business and their unique suite of products. Geoff knew this would be the perfect opportunity for him to increase his value to local businesses even more than he could ever have imagined.
